Artist Statement & Bio
Shawnequa Linder works as an artist from Omaha while investigating how her art demonstrates the conflict between chaotic elements and organized structures through her portrayal of unconventional geographic areas and human subjects. Her artistic practice creates visual representations of identity through structural elements which show character and cultural disruption by using color to build depth in their design.Linder creates her artwork through mixed media techniques which allow her to transform well-known images and common people through her artistic process of creating textures and using instinctive drawing methods. The surfaces of her work serve as visual gateways which encourage discussions about cultural matters and personal experiences along with how people maintain their sense of self through discontinuity and unity.Linder completed her Studio Arts degree at Bellevue University in 2006. She has exhibited her artwork in group shows at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts and Museum of Nebraska Art and Gallery 1516 and
Fred Simon Gallery.
