Artist Statement & Bio
Omaha-based artist Shawnequa Linder addresses the natural conflict between chaos and order. Linder's work focuses on non-traditional landscapes and the figure, applying structure to the intricate concept of identity. Using color and depth, Linder creates pieces that convey the complexities of character and culture through dissonance.By employing a meticulous process of mixed media techniques, Linder repurposes common images and subject matter. Through an intuitive style of painting and complex textures, Linder gives life to what is known. The resulting works of art serve as visual bridges, opening the discussion on how the person stays grounded within themselves despite being caught up in cycles of fragmentation and cohesion. In 2006, Linder graduated from Bellevue University with her Studio Arts degree. Her works have been featured in various exhibitions, including those held at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Museum of Nebraska Art, and Gallery 1516 & Fred Simon Gallery.
